The Space Between: How Your Body Really Heals
Everything is connected: the quality of your sleep, the amount of light, your blood pressure, cholesterol, abdominal fat, your energy, your mood, your motivation, the proper functioning of your stomach and intestines.
Everything is connected, and there are two hormones that are fundamental in all of this: insulin, which is your nutrition, which is produced by the beta cells of the pancreas, and cortisol, which is produced by the adrenal glands.
And there are three nervous systems, which are also fundamental: the sympathetic nervous system, the parasympathetic nervous system, and the vagus nerve.
Between the stimulus and the response, there is a small space.
In that space is the ability to choose the response.
That’s where your power is.
And there are two types of stimulus: the external ones, such as the economy, negative people, the political and social situation, and the internal ones, which are the mind, worry about the future, and also the past.
Both can trigger the same response.
When the mind is filled with stress, your body feels it.
The brain doesn’t know if what’s happening is real or imagined.
It only knows that it has to activate the alarm system.
And that’s when you start to experience symptoms: you wake up at 2 or 3 in the morning and can’t go back to sleep.
You wake up tired, you can’t lose weight, you have reflux, constipation, diarrhea, skin problems.
But it all starts here: in the space between stimulus and response.
If you learn to manage that space, you start to heal.
Because healing is not just about taking a pill.
Healing is about understanding how your body works, and giving it what it needs to regulate itself. And that is real self healing.
If you feel identified with any of these symptoms, and you want to understand what’s really happening in your body, I invite you to book a consultation. We can work together to recover your balance.
